This extensive new-construction concrete project was completed by Marc Todd Concrete in LaGrange, Indiana. The work included a large driveway constructed on a steep grade, a spacious parking and turnaround area, a stamped concrete sidewalk, a garage service-door apron and a patio.
A very light earth-tone brown color was added to the exterior concrete to complement the home and surrounding property. The driveway, parking area and other exterior flatwork received a light broom finish to provide a clean, attractive appearance with practical surface traction.
The steep grade made careful planning especially important. Elevations were established throughout the project to direct water away from the home and finished concrete areas while reducing locations where water could collect or puddle.
Control joints were installed at planned locations throughout the concrete. These joints create intentional points where natural movement caused by curing, temperature changes and freeze-thaw cycles can be better managed. Proper joint placement is an important part of constructing durable exterior concrete in Northern Indiana.
This project demonstrates how colored concrete can provide the strength and practicality needed for a large driveway while giving the finished property a warmer, more customized appearance.
