This two-tiered concrete patio in LaGrange, Indiana was poured and finished by Marc Todd Concrete. After the concrete had reached the proper stage of curing, we prepared the surface for decorative staining. Control joints were carefully installed before the stain application to help manage normal concrete movement while also creating clean visual divisions across the patio.
Two complementary stain colors were applied to give the patio greater depth and a custom decorative appearance. Because concrete stain reacts differently with each surface, careful preparation and application are important for achieving an attractive, consistent result. The finished colors highlight the natural character of the concrete rather than covering it with a solid painted appearance.
The entire patio was cleaned and prepared for the selected staining system. The stain and sealer products must be compatible and appropriate for an exterior surface exposed to moisture, sunlight and the freeze-thaw conditions experienced throughout Northern Indiana. Adequate curing time was allowed between the staining and final protective applications.
