Marc Todd Concrete provides decorative concrete staining for patios, interior floors and other suitable concrete surfaces throughout Southwest Michigan and Northern Indiana. Concrete stain can add layered color, natural variation and a custom finished appearance while allowing the character of the concrete to remain visible.
Our completed work includes acid-stained concrete patios, colored and stained interior floors, a stained interior floor at Lake Templene near Centreville, two-color applications and high-gloss decorative finishes. Each project is evaluated individually because the condition, age, porosity and previous treatment of the concrete can affect how the stain is absorbed and how the finished colors appear.
Concrete staining can produce earth tones, layered color effects and distinctive variations that cannot be duplicated exactly from one slab to another. Multiple stain colors may be used to create contrast, define separate areas or complement the surrounding home, furnishings and landscape.
Staining may be considered for newly poured concrete after it has cured sufficiently or for existing concrete that is structurally sound and suitable for the selected staining system. Before recommending a finish, we consider the intended use of the area, exposure to weather, desired color and the maintenance expected over time.
Surface preparation is one of the most important parts of a successful staining project. Dirt, coatings, curing products, sealers and other materials can interfere with stain penetration or create uneven results. The surface must be prepared for the specific stain and protective finish being applied.
The stain, sealer and any additional finishing products must also be compatible. This is especially important for exterior concrete exposed to moisture, sunlight and the freeze-thaw conditions common throughout Michigan and Indiana.
Depending on the project and desired appearance, a compatible protective finish can be applied after the stain has reacted or cured properly. Finish choices can influence color depth, sheen and ongoing maintenance. High-gloss finishes create a richer, more reflective appearance, while other systems may provide a more subdued look.
